Gorman Kicks of ‘08 Campaign

THOMAS E. GORMAN, of Dedham, is a candidate for Norfolk County Commissioner. Gorman, a Republican, is running unopposed in the September 9, 2008, primary, and has been an elected town meeting representative from Precinct 2 in Dedham for twenty-six years.

Gorman has been an outspoken critic of county government for twenty years and he believes that Norfolk County government is a useless, duplicitous bureaucracy, which is partially funded by a hefty annual tax paid by each of the 28 municipalities in the county. Last year the annual tax paid by each of the 28 cities and towns of Norfolk County totaled $4.5 million. The only notable service provided to the towns by county government is the use of traffic engineers, when and if they are available. Gorman, a fiscal conservative, believes the tax should be eliminated and each town would save money if they hired engineers and traffic surveyors on a per diem basis. more…
