DEDHAM – Thomas E. Gorman, a candidate for Norfolk County Commissioner, is pleased to announce that he will start a college scholarship program designated for each of the 28 municipalities within Norfolk County. The 501 (c) (3) account will be funded by the $30,000 annual salary Gorman will receive, if elected county commissioner.
Gorman ran for county commissioner in 2006 and received nearly 75,000 votes. He will refuse to accept the salary and has promised to put the money to good use. Gorman said he will propose eliminating the county’s executive functions but until such time as the executive branch of county government is still functioning, and the commissioner’s are still depositing $30,000 a year paychecks for the part-time position, he will promise to financially support this unique county opportunity for college-bound students. Gorman will offer two scholarships of $500 each, in all 28 municipalities throughout Norfolk County .
“This program will allow two high school graduates from each town in Norfolk County to apply for a $500 scholarship,” said Gorman, a small business owner in Dedham . “If the voters of Norfolk County trust me to represent their best interests as a commissioner, then setting up this scholarship program is a token of appreciation and a way of giving back to the county. The cost of a college education is frightfully high, so this plan will directly assist 56 future college students for $500 each.”
